Sherwood Student Leadership Update - Walking the Archer Way
I hope you're enjoying the fall season as we settle into October! We recently held a meeting with the Principal Advisors and Peer Mediators, where our student leaders shared their thoughts and ideas with myself and Ms. McMahon-Stoker, our new Assistant Principal. Here are some of the exciting highlights they discussed:
- More playground upgrades, including the addition of swings and a slide
- Expanding field trips and extracurricular activities
- Improving how students treat each other, with a focus on reducing unkind words and gossiping
- Organizing culture and diversity activities to celebrate multiculturalism
We're very proud of our Peer Mediators who are did some learning and role play in preparation to help younger Archers resolve conflicts. As students have voiced concerns about unkind language and gossip, they discussed how as peer mediators they will be confidential empathetic listeners and help students speak with kind words, even when angry and stick to the facts. Gossip can harm our school because spreading half-truths and misinformation can damage relationships. We encourage families to emphasizing the importance of kindness and honesty in our interactions. As always, thank you for everything you do to support student learning at Sherwood.
Temporary Leadership Coverage
Dr Munroe will be away for a brief period due to a family responsibility. During the absence (Oct. 9-11, 14 &15), Rolf Haensel, a retired principal with a wealth of experience, will be stepping in. Rolf is well-prepared to support Ms McMahon-Stoker and ensure Sherwood continues to run smoothly., and Dr Munroe will remain available by email if needed. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Sherwood is excited to have Basketball back at our school. CBE Students are welcome to watch the first HOME game. All students who wish to attend other games MUST be accompanied by their own Legal Guardian. Students cannot be under the supervision of someone else’s Guardian, it must be their own or they will be asked to leave. All students must be under the direct supervision of their own Guardian at all away games.
