First Day of Classes
First Day of Classes – 2026-2027
Welcome back, Sherwood students and families!
We are excited to begin another year of learning, growth, and connection. The first day of classes for students is Monday, August 31, 2026. We look forward to welcoming both returning and new students to Sherwood School.
School Office Hours
The school office will be open prior to the start of classes on the following dates:
August 26-28, 2026
8:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Regular office hours during the school year are:
Monday – Thursday: 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Friday: 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM
To help us provide prompt service, we encourage families to avoid peak arrival and dismissal times whenever possible:
- Morning: 8:00 AM – 9:30 AM
- Afternoon: 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM
During the school year, families may contact the school office at sherwood@cbe.ab.ca. Please note that this email account is not monitored during the summer break.
Teacher Assignments
Teaching staff will email families by the end of the day on Friday, August 28, 2026. This email will introduce your child's teacher and provide information about designated entry and exit doors for the first day of school and throughout the year.
Storing Personal Mobile Devices
Personal mobile devices brought to school must be powered off or set to silent mode and stored out of sight IN student lockers, backpacks, or other designated areas. Students are not permitted to use social media applications via CBE networks on PMDs or CBE-owned devices inside the school during the school day.
Food and Beverage Expectations
To support student health, learning, and emotional regulation, students will not be permitted to consume energy drinks during the school day. In addition, large sugary beverages such as slurpees, slushies, pop, and similar drinks should be left at home. Students are encouraged to bring water bottles and other healthy beverage choices.
Research and our own observations indicate that highly caffeinated and high-sugar drinks can negatively affect concentration, behaviour, emotional regulation, and overall readiness to learn. Our goal is to create an environment where all students can be successful throughout the school day.
Clothing Expectations
Students are welcome to wear hats and beanies while at school. However, hoods are expected to remain down while inside the building.
Being able to see students' faces helps staff build positive relationships, communicate effectively, ensure student safety, and create a welcoming learning environment. This expectation supports supervision, accountability, and a strong sense of community throughout the school.
We appreciate the support of our families as we work together to maintain a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment for all students.
