Recognizing Signs of Distress

Parents and guardians should be vigilant for the following behavioral changes in their teens:

  • Withdrawal from family and friends
  • Unexplained injuries or frequent use of long sleeves
  • Mood swings, irritability, or persistent sadness
  • Changes in eating or sleeping patterns
  • Decline in academic performance

Online Resources: Websites like "Mind Your Mind" and "Build Them Up" offer a range of tools and information to help manage stress and promote mental wellness.

Community Programs: The City of Calgary, the Calgary Public Library and YCC in Ogden all have excellent programs designed to keep young minds active and engaged over the summer months.

Additionally, we are excited to share an Indigenous Community Resource Guide to support our families. Please see that attached guide to find information on Indigenous connections and resources.

Cyber Safety Resources for Families

While social media has many benefits, there can also be many stressors with these tools for our children. Our School Resource Officer (SRO) has taken time this year to speak with several of our classes about Cyber safety. Please find the resources below to support your information gathering and add to your cyber toolbox. This list contains suggestions but is in by no means exclusive to all supporting resources on this topic. Additionally, some of these sites may have 'at cost' programs which we are in no way promoting as 'must do' activities for parents.
