At Sherwood School, we know our role in supporting students' learning extends to partnering with families on facing some of today’s teen challenges, such as vaping, tobacco, and cannabis use. To ensure students, parents and guardians have the information they need to make informed, healthy decisions, we work to foster open, nonjudgmental conversations about the realities of how these substances affect adolescent development to help us guide our learners toward informed, healthy decisions.
As partners in this effort, we encourage you to speak openly at home about these topics. Many families have found it helpful to focus on the health and wellness aspects of these discussions, as well as on the long-term benefits of making safe choices. Our goal is to educate students on the potential impacts of these substances and to provide them with resources and support. We ask families and the community to support our children in complying with school rules, which includes policies against vaping on school grounds (Education Act, Section 32) and the Tobacco, Smoking and Vaping Reduction Act which prohibits the sale and use of vaping products by minors.
We encourage you to explore the following resources from Alberta Health Services as they offer excellent information on these topics. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school community informed and healthy. Together, we can support our students in making choices that contribute to their growth and well-being.
