Y Mind Program
Hello, my name is Tina King and I am a Y Mind Facilitator with YMCA Calgary. I wanted to share an amazing program with you called Y Mind! Y Mind is a FREE 7-week mental wellness program for teenagers (13-18 years old). The program aims to support and provide resources for teenagers experiencing mild to moderate levels of stress and/or anxiety. Y Mind is grounded on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness and allows participants to learn more about different ways of how to manage their stress and anxiety. This program is facilitated by trained mental health professionals and there will always be two facilitators at each session. We have seen proven results nationally of reduced stress and anxiety related symptoms, increased overall wellbeing, and an increased ability to cope with difficult emotions.
Participants will receive a workbook of all the activities done during the program, so they can review and practice at home. We do provide snacks for participants during the program and meet other individuals experiencing similar feelings. Upon completion of the program, participants would receive a Certificate of Program Completion and a free 2-month YMCA gym membership as improving one's physical wellbeing has shown that it improved mental wellbeing.
Y Mind is generously supported by the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Alberta Government and allows us to offer the program at multiple locations throughout the city. The closest location to your school may be the Brookfield Y at Seton or a virtual group.
Individuals can learn more about our program on our website (https://www.ymcacalgary.org/y-mind-mental-wellness-program) or complete a Formstack request (https://ymcacalgary.formstack.com/forms/ymind_intake_form_ymcacalgary) to sign up for our Information and Intake Sessions. Students 14 and older can self-register for the program without parental consent as well. Interested individuals can contact our general Y Mind email if they have any questions at ymind@calgary.ymca.ca.
Thank you for your time today. Please do not hesitate to contact our team if you have any questions.
Take care,
Tina King (she/her)

Fees
Semester 2 fees have been added to your MyCBE account, please note that you have all year to pay fees, and that there may be some changes as students request different options throughout January and February.
For students taking Band their fees will be loaded in the new year- grade 6 students taking band will not have a fee applied as band is part of their CTF Cluster.
We are hoping that all fee issues have been resolved, and we will continue to monitor into the New Year, if you are still experiencing some difficulties or concerns regarding fees please email me at Michelle Moss - mimoss@cbe.ab.ca.
Casino Fundraiser
Sherwood’s next casino fundraiser will take place on Saturday May 4 to Sunday May 5!This is our main form of fundraising at Sherwood and all money raised goes towards enhancing classrooms and educational programming for your children. Please save the date and consider volunteering some of your time that weekend. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months!
Parking Lot Usage between Sherwood and Banting and Best Schools
Parents and guardians please refrain from using the parking lot located between Sherwood and Banting and Best Schools for pick-up and drop-off . This area is reserved for staff vehicles only, and congestion can lead to safety concerns. We appreciate your cooperation in using designated drop-off zones and nearby street parking to ensure a safe environment for all students. The community center is welcoming parents parking, when picking up, dropping or visiting Sherwood.
Weather
Please make sure students are dressed for the weather, have both indoor and outdoor shoes. Layers work best as students will be both indoors and outdoors throughout the day.
