Lunchroom Supervision
Students in grade 4, 5 & 6 do not have access to a microwave or hot water. Students who bring items that need to be heated or need hot water, will be offered sandwiches, fruit, and vegetables, alternatively students can phone home and ask for a family member to bring them a different lunch. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
Student AM Drop Off
We hope everyone is staying safe and warm. A few reminders for the morning - Teacher's supervision starts at 8:00am there is no supervision at any of the school doors before that time. Please do not drop off before 8am.If this can not be avoided please phone the office to make other arrangements. The safety of our students is our first priority.
Parking – Please Do NOT drop or pick up students in the staff parking lot
Reminder the parking lot is for Sherwood and Banting and Best staff ONLY – please do not use the parking lot for drop off and pick up as it is a safety issue for our students. When we choose convenience over safety, we are putting students at risk, and we all have an interest in keeping students safe.
February is Black History Month
Each February, people across Canada participate in Black History Month events and celebrations that honour the legacy and contributions of Black people in Canada and their communities. The 2025 theme for Black History Month is: “Black Legacy and Leadership.
Black History Month Celebration and Assemblies
Sherwood school is honored to welcome dance artists Lisa Latouche and Masani St. Rose to present on Tuesday February 25th. Lisa and Masani will be sharing their recent work which centers on Alberta's Black history, their relationship to this land, and who has come before them. Masani and Lisa recently created a film for the Esker Foundation, entitled "Keystone Is" and will be sharing clips from the film, along with a presentation with students. Lisa Latouche is based in New York and has extensive credits on Broadway, theatre, film and television. She received both the Fred Astaire Award and the Actor’s Equity Award for Outstanding Broadway Chorus. She is proudly a 2024 “Armstrong Now” Artist in Residence with the Louis Armstrong Masani St. Rose is an Alberta based dance artist who specializes in West African and Carribean dance styles. She has taught and studied across Canada and West Africa. She has extensive experience working with students of all ages within public education through in-school residencies, the Jube School and Arts Commons. It is her mission to keep the art and culture alive from soul to sole!
Sherwood's Black History month presentation is made possible through the support of the Sherwood School council. We are thrilled to host two distinguished artists at our school. Thank you for helping us bring amazing opportunities to our students!
Ogden Soap Box Derby
The First Annual Ogden Soap Box Derby is coming to Ogden!
We don't want any child ages 8-18 to miss out! If your child wants to participate, please fill out the registration form by no later than March 20. If you need your soapbox sponsored, NO PROBLEM! Just fill out the sponsorship part and we will cover your car. We don't want ANY child to miss out on this.

Book Donation
Sherwood will be collecting gently used books for our first ever used book sale fundraiser. Collection will be on going until May 2025, with the sale being planned for the end of May.
The Mustard Seed - Coldest Night
On February 22, 2025, from 4-7 The Mustard Seed is hosting Coldest Night of the Year, a special fundraising event dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing hurt, hunger and homelessness across Canada. We would love to have you join us at Banting & Best School to walk 2km to 5km around the community of Ogden-Lynnwood and enjoy a warm meal together. Alternatively, a walk can be organized in your school community on a day in February that works best for your calendar.
We would be thrilled to have you and members of your school join us as a partner in this important cause.
Winter Weather Guidelines
Brrr - Winter is here. Please make sure students are dressed for the weather! Students will be going outside unless the temperature reaches -20 including windchill, in those cases DIV 2 students will have an indoor lunch. Reminder that DIV 3 students are allowed off campus during the lunch hour, but are expected back at school and in class at 12:19 pm. Learn more!
