School Update:

Looking Ahead: 2025-2026 School Budget (RAM) and Planning for Sherwood School

As we begin preparations for the 2025-2026 school year, we want to provide our school community with an update on the Resource Allocation Method (RAM) and what it means for Sherwood School.

Currently, Sherwood serves 360 students with the support of 20 dedicated teachers, 2 Education Assistants, and a range of skilled support staff who contribute to the daily success and well-being of our learners. In alignment with the Calgary Board of Education’s mission to “nurture each student as a lifelong learner and citizen through rich learning experiences and supportive relationships,” our team remains steadfast in creating a learning environment where all students can thrive.

Looking ahead, we are anticipating a decrease in both student enrolment and funding. Projections for the 2025-2026 school year estimate an enrolment of approximately 325 students. As a result, we expect staffing to reflect this shift, with 17 teachers, potentially one Education Assistant, and continued support from essential staff members.

While these changes present challenges, our commitment to student success remains unchanged. Guided by the CBE’s vision of “each student, in every school, succeeding,” we are exploring innovative and thoughtful ways to continue delivering high-quality learning experiences. We are focused on ensuring that every student continues to feel supported, engaged, and inspired at Sherwood School.

Student Vote

As part of our commitment to fostering civic engagement and responsible citizenship, students will have the opportunity to participate in Student Vote, a parallel election program coinciding with the upcoming Federal Election.

  • Through this program, students will:
Research and learn about the election process, political parties, and local candidates.
  • Engage in classroom discussions and activities to better understand the election process.
  • Cast a vote for the candidate of their choice in a mock election based on their own informed opinions.

While the results of our Student Vote will not count toward the official election, this experience is a valuable way for students to develop critical thinking skills, understand democratic processes, and recognize the importance of participating in elections.

Book Donations

Spring Cleaning? Trying to declutter? We can help… we’re looking for donations of gently used books for our upcoming used book sale. Proceeds from the sale will go towards updating our collection in the Sherwood Learning Commons. Books can be dropped off at the office.  Thanks so much for your support!
