School Update

Teacher Strike: We understand this is a challenging time for students, families, and staff alike, and our focus remains on minimizing disruption, safeguarding the student experience, and keeping open lines of communication with our school community. As the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) membership recently voted to reject a tentative agreement, a full strike is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a negotiated settlement is reached beforehand. As a result, Sherwood School will be closed to learning while teachers are on strike. If programming or services are disrupted, families may need to make alternate childcare or supervision arrangements.

Access to BB4CK Lunches During a Strike/Lockout: As your child received a Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids (BB4CK) school lunch, we wanted to make you aware that in the case of a school strike or lockout, BB4CK will be continuing to provide lunches to kids who need them via a lunch-pickup model at designated sites in Calgary.  

As this is an evolving situation, they will be keeping this webpage updated with further details and with the locations at which your family will be able to access BB4CK lunches.  

Sherwood Parent Association/School Council Update

Domino’s Fundraiser Nights: We are excited to share that our Domino’s Pizza fundraiser dates are confirmed for the third Monday of each month! On these days, families will receive 25% off all regular-price menu items, and 20% of each order will be donated back to Sherwood School.

Annual General Meeting – October 6, 2025: We invite all parents and guardians to join us for our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday, October 6, 2025. If you would like to attend online, please email sherwoodschoolcouncil@gmail.com for the link and details.

An AGM is a yearly meeting required for all School Councils and Societies in Alberta. It provides parents with the opportunity to hear important updates, review financial reports, and most importantly, to elect new executive members who will help guide and support the work of our School Council for the coming year.

This year, we are seeking volunteers for several important School Council roles:

  • President – Chairs meetings, keeps the work of council on track, approves meeting minutes, and acts as spokesperson for the council.
  • Vice-President – Assists the President, attends meetings, and steps into leadership if the President is unavailable.
  • Secretary – Records and shares meeting minutes, maintains membership information, and supports council communication.
  • Treasurer – Manages financial records, prepares reports, and ensures annual filings and reports are submitted.

Each of these roles is vital in ensuring that Sherwood School continues to benefit from the support, advocacy, and fundraising provided by our School Council. Serving on the School Council is a rewarding way to contribute to your child’s school experience and help build a strong school community.

We encourage all families to consider attending the AGM and learning more about how you can get involved. Together, we can make a meaningful difference for our students.
